Strings for Change

Using chamber music to support local and global causes.

We are a student-led musical initiative that organizes chamber music performances in public spaces to raise money for local and global causes. By rotating ensembles and donating our earnings each quarter, we use music to make meaningful change in our communities.

Music as a Force for Good

We busk in public spaces and donate 100 percent of our earnings, so every performance is a chance to make real change.

Perform

We organize chamber music performances in public spaces — parks, plazas, and community areas — accessible to everyone.

Raise

We busk and donate all our earnings by quarter. Every dollar goes directly to the causes our ensemble votes to support.

Impact

Members choose a local charitable cause to champion, and donate all quarterly earnings.

About Strings for Change

Our Mission

Strings for Change turns music into measurable community support by raising funds for organizations addressing essential needs such as food access, youth services, and housing support.

What We Do

We are a student-led musical initiative that organizes chamber music performances in public spaces to raise money for local and global causes. By rotating ensembles and donating our earnings each quarter, we use music to make meaningful change in our communities!

What to Expect

Members of Strings for Change can expect a supportive and collaborative environment. New members will be guided through their first busking session by more experienced members, so no prior busking experience is required.

Performances are flexible and typically occur about once or twice per month, depending on availability. Members may perform in different chamber group combinations, collaborate with other musicians, and help raise funds for meaningful community causes.

Members are also encouraged to suggest causes they are passionate about and participate in deciding a charitable cause to donate to every quarter!

Members

Meet our Musicians! Our members are passionate about chamber music and using performance to support meaningful causes in our community.

Xiaoyu Lin
Xiaoyu Lin
Violin
Hi! I'm Xiaoyu Lin, and I play the violin. I founded Strings for Change to bring musicians together and use chamber music to support community organizations. Besides playing the violin, I also enjoy playing the piano, painting, and hanging out with friends.
Jacob Galatin
Jacob Galatin
Cello
Cello there! My name is Jacob. Through music, I seek to comfort, empower, and invigorate. I enjoy playing in a variety of music ensembles, from string quartets to orchestras. I perform music in many genres, including classical, rock, and pop. Previously, I worked on a fundraising campaign for teens in foster care. When I am not playing music, I am often going for a run, playing basketball, or writing fiction.
Cooper Burton
Cooper Burton
Viola
Hi, I'm Cooper. I play the viola. I enjoy music and have been playing for almost my entire life. Other than music, I play sports and folding origami.
Noah Galatin
Noah Galatin
Violin
Hello! My name is Noah Galatin, and I am very excited to mobilize the joy and support of my community to those in need through music. I am a violinist, pianist, composer and love listening to classical and rock music. Besides music, I like to play basketball — and play my part (by memory, no sheet music) in the universe.
Noah Chen
Cello
Hey, I'm Noah Chen. I'm a cellist and an early member of the Strings for Change organization. I enjoy performing in chamber groups and am passionate about my instrument. Aside from the cello, I also love science, exploring new ideas, and spending time with friends.
Dasha Shkolnik
Violin
Hi! I'm Dasha and I play violin. I love music and performing, because it lets me step away from the busy world of STEM and helps me meet amazing people. Outside of violin I also sing, create water color art, and love learning about new scientific discoveries!
